Why Choose Clear Aligners?
Would you like a less noticeable treatment option than traditional braces? Clear aligners are practically invisible!
Clear aligners are a powerful and convenient method to align your teeth gradually. These transparent trays fit your teeth like a glove while effectively straightening your smile.
And since they’re nearly invisible, you can smile with confidence from start to finish and never worry about wires getting in the way.
How Clear Aligners Work
Clear aligners use a series of custom-made trays to apply gentle pressure on your teeth, guiding them into the correct position.
When you visit our Benbrook orthodontic office, Dr. Eric or Dr. Lena and the team will create a 3D digital model of your teeth and design a personalized treatment plan just for you.
Once your custom set of aligners is ready, you'll switch to a new set every one to two weeks. Each one brings you closer to your dream smile. Dr. Lena or Dr. Eric will regularly monitor your progress to ensure everything is progressing as planned.
Clear aligners offer flexibility and convenience, providing a smooth path to straighter teeth.
Common Orthodontic Issues
Clear aligners can effectively resolve a variety of orthodontic concerns, including:
Crowding
If your teeth are too close together, causing alignment and cleaning issues, clear aligners can create the necessary space for a stunning smile.
Gaps
Whether you have small or larger gaps between your teeth, clear aligners will gently move your teeth together, closing those spaces and giving you a seamless smile.
Bite Irregularities
Clear aligners can correct bite problems such as overbites, underbites, or crossbites to enhance your overall bite and oral health.
The Benefits of Clear Aligners
Clear aligners from Bortnem Orthodontics offer all sorts of benefits.
A Low-Key Look
Clear aligners are nearly invisible, so you won't feel self-conscious about wearing them. You can confidently showcase your smile while enhancing your teeth.
Wireless Treatment
Crafted from smooth materials, these transparent orthodontic devices offer a comfortable experience without the discomfort associated with traditional braces.
Convenience & Flexibility
Since you can remove your trays, eating, drinking, and oral care are simplified. There are no dietary restrictions or extra effort needed for brushing and flossing.
Faster Treatment Times
Aligners sometime yield faster results than other orthodontic options. Dr. Lena or Dr. Eric will create a personalized plan to suit your needs, ensuring efficient progress toward your desired smile.

Living with Clear Aligners
Now that you’ve learned the orthodontic problems that clear aligners can correct and the benefits that come with this teeth-straightening solution, you might be curious what will change about your day-to-day routine. This next section is dedicated to just that! We will cover how often you need to wear your aligners, how to keep them clean, and more to help your aligner journey be smooth and stress-free.
Wearing Your Trays
Naturally, if you don’t wear your aligners, then they won’t work. That’s why we ask our patients to keep them on for a minimum of 22 hours each day. The best way to make this goal a reality is by only taking them off when it’s necessary, like before brushing your teeth in the morning. You can also use the stopwatch on your phone. That way, you know how much aligner-free time you have left throughout the day.
Cleaning Your Aligners
The last thing you want is for stains to develop on the surface of your aligners or your teeth, drawing unwanted attention to your smile in the process. Fortunately, you can prevent that from happening with the right habits in place. That starts with rinsing them with clean, cool water each time you take them out and extends to gently cleaning them with a soft-bristle toothbrush (without toothpaste) before you put them back on.
Important reminder: You should NOT use hot water to clean your aligners.
Eating & Drinking
Since clear aligners are removable, they don’t come with the same dietary restrictions that traditional braces do. With that said, if tooth decay, gum disease, or any other oral health problems develop, then your treatment plan will temporarily be put on hold. So, it’s best to eat healthy, well-balanced meals and to limit your intake of soda, ice cream, and other sugary treats.
Losing or Damaging a Tray
If you accidentally lose or damage your clear aligners in Benbrook or Stephenville, then don’t wait – call our team at Bortnem Orthodontics right away. The sooner you do, the sooner Dr. Eric Bortnem or Dr. Lena Bortnem can take a look at your treatment plan and determine the best way to proceed. For instance, if you’re only a day or two away from progressing to the next set of aligners in the series, then they may give you the green light to make the transition early!
Attending Progress Visits
Lastly, you’ll need to come to our office every 10-12 weeks. These progress visits are crucial because they allow us to monitor the movement of your teeth. If you’re on track with your treatment plan, then there’s a good chance that your appointment will be pretty quick. However, if that’s not the case, then we will need to spend some time determining how to get you back on track.
Tip: Always wear your current set of aligners to your progress visits, and bring your past set and the next set with you!
